Robert Wallis post 1740 - 1776
Robert Wallis , of York, England, Attorney-at-Law (on burial record). He gained the Freedom of the City of York on 4th Sep 1772. Molden lists him as gentleman. Third son. As an attorney he was originally articled to the Town Clerk, who was presumably John Raper (Town Clerk 1749-81). In 1769, he is noted as in partnership with John Raper. His wife was Catholic and his daughters were baptised as Catholics and his sons as Protestants. To 1769 he was in partnership with John Raper, attorney and town clerk. Marr. cited in York Courant on 29 Jan 1771. Binds them for what as far as I can decypher is 2,000 pounds on September 2, 1776 to draw up a full inventory of the goods, chattles and credits of Robert Wallis (having bona mobilia' within the province of York) gentleman.
