Edward Jones , Ned Mãon. Admitted to Jesus College, Oxford, 27 March, 1767, aged 17, and took his B.A. in 1770 (Foster's Alumni Oxonienses), was elected a Fellow of his College also in 1770, which honour he retained for 52 years, that is, till his death in 1822 Prominent in the Welsh Societies in London, especially among the Gwyneddigion. Barrister-at-alw, admitted to the Inner Temple. To translate Gwilym Lleyn's own words-` Edward Jones, Esq. This son is reported to have been an excellent scholar, and an author but I know not what he published, if he did publish any- thing, though tradition firmly says that he did do so. His mind had become deranged, and his family had put him under the care and supervision of the respectable old yeoman, Mr. John Roberts, Castell, Llanddeiniolen, near Carnarvon, the father of Mr. Ebenezer Jones, Crug, near that town. His grave is in the churchyard of Llanddein- iolen, on the right hand after entering, near the burial place of the Castell family.' Then, after giving the in- scription on the monument, he adds,-` The people who remember him say that he was very simple and innocent, and that he walked about with a slate and pencil in his hands, as if busily writing something, though no one knew what, for as soon as he noticed anybody coming near him, he would as busily blot it out again.' That, I feel certain, is an insight into the sad last stage of the life of the exceptionally able scholar and author, Edward Jones (Ned Mon), and explains the strange oblivion into which the life history of such an able author has fallen among his countrymen.
