His first job in 1898, a reporter was on his father's paper the Harlem Local Reporter. By 1899 he held the post of London editor, and then he became European manager of the Scripps-McRae and Publishers Press Associations of America. 1907-8 European Manager of The United Press. Covered death of Queen Victoria, 1906 and also covered the marriage of King Alfonso of Spain. He was standing near the King when the asassination attempt was made (1906). He got a scoop. From 1918 to 1926 he wrote for United Press on foreign affairs. Also acted as American correspondent for Daily Express of London. New York Editor of The Daily Excpress 1908-31. JWT began his studies in Philosophy and in 1926 pub. "Creative Freedom". 1930-40 lived in Japan, studying Shinto and Japanese lore. 1935 pub. . The Meaning of Shinto; The Primaeval Foundation of Creative Spirit in Modern Japan, Kennikat Press, Inc. New York (1935). At his request, his ashes were sent to Japan.
