Charles Edward Fowke 1824 - 1904
Charles Edward Fowke , illeg. of Lyttleton, New Zealand, formerly of Tenby, Pembrokeshire, Wales, sailor. - fisherman. Mariner (1861). Educ. by his grandmother, Mary nee Lowe. He left England, emigrated to New Zealand (Lyttleton) in 1864 on the ship "Indian Empire" with his wife Margaret ("Margit") (nee) Nicholls (ca.1824-post/1864) and 5 children, i.e. his four sons Thomas M. Fowke (1847-1938), Charles E. Fowke (1849-1923), William R. Fowke (1856-post/1905), and John N. Fowke (1859-1938), and his daughter Sarah J. Fowke (* 1853), to become there the Founding Ancestor of the FAMILY "FOWKE, formerly of Lyttleton, N.Z.". One year later his younger brother Edward Fowke (1835-1909) emigrated to Australia with his wife, two sons and daughter - also his then 59 year old father Charles Fowke (1805-82) - to become there the the Founding Ancestor of the FAMILY "FOWKE, formerly of Lyttleton, N.Z.".
