, d.s.p. of llynon, Anglesey. Deputy Assistant Commissary of the Army. Landowner, magistrate, CG CB (1871). Comy General Retired C.b. and JP. (1881). Arrived in Auckland 5 August 1857 with sister Eliza, so presumably his first wife had already died. Lived in St George's Bay and possibly, later in Commercial Bay. See Una Platts' 'The Lively Capital' (Christchurch, 1971) for further details. He lived in Italy for a number of years. Issue? "JONES, Humphrey Stanley Herbert, Esq., of Llynon, Anglesey. Is a J. P. for Anglesey ; Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath ; Commissary-General to Her Majesty's forces, retired in 1869. Mr. Commissary Jones is the son of Humphrey Herbert Jones, Esq., of Llynon, J. P. and D. L. for Anglesey ; b. at Llynon ; ed. at Edin- burgh University ; m., ist, Agnes, dau. of Colonel N. Muter, R. C. Rifles; 2nd, Emma, dau. of the Hon. A. Buchanan, M.D., New Zealand ; s. to estates 1848. Residence : Llynon, Holyhead, Anglesey. Arms : Azure, a chevron, or, between three nags' heads, erased, two and one. Ci est : A nag's head, erased. Mottoes: Conanti nil arduum, and "Onward." " At one point he was the "second in command of the British Army in New Zealand." C.B. He sold Llynon on 14 Aug.1873 with 50 acres to Gen. Hughes. He was also of Villa Mona, Bordighera, Italy. Sometime Dep. Assistant Commissary general; at Amherstburg, Canada West, later Commissary general and Commander of the Bath, Auckland, New Zealand. mentioned in his brother in law (Robert Alan Stevenson d. 1865) inventory and will as sometime Deputy Assistant Commissary General at Amherstburg Canada West and now (ca 1866) Commander of the Bath Auckland New Zealand.
